Yesterday was my first Mother's Day! It was absolutely wonderful and I thank my beautiful baby girl, Emma, and my amazing husband, Ryan, for making my day so special. The only thing missing was my own mother. I miss her every day and wish I could have spent the day with her but Ryan did a really great job of making the weekend special even though I couldn't be with her. He started off by bringing home roses and lillies for me on Friday. The lillies were from Emma. :-) On Saturday, we spent the day together as a family which was really nice. We had a community garage sale that day so despite Emma waking up numerous times during the night on Friday/Sat. morning, and me waking up at 6 am on Saturday to get things ready for the sale, it was still a fun day! I walked around the neighborhood with a friend to try and find some new toys for Emma since she's getting bored with her "baby" toys. Despite my efforts, I didn't find any toys but I did buy three new books for her! I only spent $1. Honestly, the girl doesn't need any books. I've got big plastic bins filled with books in almost perfect condition from my days of teaching first grade! Really, I've got hundreds. I've got a problem. :-( I bought her "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" and "Goodnight Moon" in hardback and perfect shape for $0.50, plus a cute little board book! Wonderful books at a wonderful price! Yay me! :-)
On Sunday, Ryan so graciously took Emma in the mornning so I could sleep in until 9 am. Haha...I remember when I'd sleep in until 11! Sometimes I really miss those days. :-) Ooo, Emma also slept ALL night without waking up to play at 2 am as has been the habit in recent days. Soooo nice! It was a lovely Mother's Day present from her! I felt perfectly rested for once! After waking, Ryan made an excellent breakfast of french toast (my fav!), sausage, and scrambled eggs. It was delicious! He also gave me two sweet cards (one from Emma and one from himself) and a beautiful necklace with Emma's birthstone on it. He is really the sweetest man I know and always so thoughtful. I'm incredibly lucky to have found such a wonderful man to spend my life with. Later on, we went to lunch at Zoe's Cafe in Birkdale (my new favorite lunch spot!) and I got a free cookie! I also had a greek chicken pita, fresh fruit, and we shared an appetizer of pita bread and hummus. Oh man, it was amazingly delicious!! :-) The perks of Mother's Day are pretty good! We went for ice cream later that night at Brusters, another delicious treat and a few hundred extra calories to add to my behind, but it was worth it. :-) It was a wonderful day! Thank you Ryan and Emma! You two are my world and I love you more than words can say.
