It's always hard for me to spend holidays away from my family. Yes, my husband and Emma were here with me on this special day but I always feel a bit sad that I can't be with my parents, brother, and extended family in Pennsylvania on holidays. Thankfully, we do get to spend 1-2 holidays a year with my family in PA. I grew up spending each holiday with my mom's and dad's side of the family (cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents...everyone). I have a HUGE family so it's a big change to not have everyone around now. Maybe it will get easier as time goes on, but I can't help but miss that familiarity and closeness I had with all of my relatives.
On a different note, Emma is also 5 months old today! She's growing to be SUCH a big girl!! Here are some facts about Emma's fifth month!
- You weigh about 16 1/2 lbs and we measured you at 25 inches long.
- You are still in size 2 diapers -- Huggies and Luvs.
- You are still in size 3-6 months but are growing out of them very quickly.
- You rolled! You rolled from your belly to your back first, and then from you back to your belly two weeks later! You struggle at times with rolling but you're getting better!
- You are starting to sit up! I've been working with you since you turned 4 months and you're able to tri-pod sit. You can usually sit unsupported for a minute or so at a time. You LOVE to sit up so you can look around.
- You are sleeping very well! You sleep from 8:30-5:30 or 6:00, eat, and sleep for another hour or two!
- You take a few naps during the day, usually 9:30, 12, 3:30, and 6. Sometimes you nap for 30 minutes and sometimes an hour.
- We tried rice cereal a few weeks ago and you weren't a fan. I know it was too early but I was excited to give it a try. I don't think I'm going to start you again for another two weeks, and then we'll try some rice cereal again. If you really continue to hate it, I'll start you on avocado or sweet potato. I plan on making my own baby food and I'm excited to see how it goes!
- You are grabbing at more and more every day. You now love to grab at food on the table when we're eating (if you're not sitting in your high chair). You're also grabbing at people's faces now! You love to go for the nose and chin. :-) You're also a big fan of pulling mommy's hair.
- You found your feet! You love, love, love to grab them. You even got your big toe in your mouth the other day. :-)
- You started blowing raspberries! It's adorable and makes us laugh every time.
- You are laughing more and more, and especially love to squeal, at a really high pitch, when you're really happy!
- I have to strap you into your swing and bouncer now because you've started over-reaching for the toys hanging over your head. I'm afraid you're going to reach too far and fall out! I probably should have strapped you in earlier but you never moved in them, my lazy little girl. ;-)
- You figured out how to jump in your jumperoo and you absolutely love it! You're arms finally grew long enough to reach the toys!
- You're in your exersaucer each day and love to play with the toys on it!
- You're becoming more social with other babies! I started taking you to a play date each Wednesday morning. You're the youngest but you love looking at the other babies and reaching out to them.
- You took your second long road trip (8 hours) from April 21-23rd. We went to Ohio so you could meet your daddy's family. You met your grandma and great-grandma for the first time, as well as some great aunts and uncles. You were excellent the entire time and slept wonderfully at the hotel!
