Miss Emma decided to start crawling on Tuesday, August 16th. I was playing with her on the floor of her nursery and before I knew it, she turned herself around and starting crawling towards the closet! She only made it about 2 feet before she belly flopped. I couldn't believe it! For several weeks prior, she would launch herself forwards from a sitting position but always ended up on her belly. Rather than moving onto all fours and rocking, she just went onto all fours from sitting and crawled away. She's now crawling all over the place and exploring anything she can get her hands on! She's recently discovered the computer cords, the cable box/dvd player, and the sliding doors of our entertainment center. She's also started opening the cabinets and kitchen drawers but hasn't pulled anything out yet. We've done a little bit of baby proofing but mostly left everything out except for harmful objects. She's hasn't discovered the stairs yet but we have a gate ready to go for when she does.
Emma has also been working on pulling up for a little while. Today she decided to start pulling up on her leap frog table, the bookcase, and the couch. I've been busy all morning chasing after her and "spotting" her as she pulls up. As much as I've been looking forward to this new mobility, I find myself about to have a heart attack every time she pulls up and I'm not nearby! I can handle the crawling but man, pulling up is a whole new story. She's still wobbly on her feet but she's been trying to walk around the furniture anyway. I know this is all part of the learning-to-walk process but now that she's starting, I'm not sure I'm ready! Where did my baby go? She's going to be one year old in just 12 weeks! Time...please slow down.
